Sperrins Spectacular!

Round 4 of the 2010 Hankook Northern Ireland Rally Championship will return to the Sperrins tarmac as Magherafelt and District Motorclub host their annual Tour of the Sperrins Rally.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 8 May and with a Road Closing Order secured, the stages in the Sperrins will be truly spectacular!

Three fast and challenging new stages have been chosen by Clerk of the Course for the event, James Mc Keefry.

We are delighted to be back on tarmac,” McKeefrey said. ”On my first year as C.O.C.  I am pulling out all the stops with the support of the organising committee to ensure a brilliant event for everyone.”

Magherafelt and District Motorclub Chairperson, Brigid Donnelly, who is acting as Safety Officer for the event, believes that this year’s event “will return to the glory days of speed in the Sperrins with lots of sideways Mk2 action”.

“I welcome all overseas visitors and returning local competitors,” Donnelly said. ”I hope that all spectators will respect the safety code and obey the marshals to ensure that we have a safe and successful event.”

It is hoped that last year’s winner, Derek Mc Garrity, will lead the cars away from Walsh’s Hotel, Maghera.

Competition secretary Bridget Averall has reported a good deal of interest from local rally stars despite the regs not even being published yet! The Tour of the Sperrins website is clocking up the hits as participants prepare to clock up the miles over the Sperrins.

This year’s new rally sponsors, TNR Alu Systems, are delighted to be on board in support of this prestigious event.

Company directors Aidan and Damien Toner are both keen rally enthusiasts and are anticipating some storming stages over the Sperrins in their MK2 Escort. The brothers have tirelessly worked behind the scenes along with the rally committee to help put this event on the right track.

Entries open on Sunday 28 March and with an entry fee of £285 for a competitive 40+ miles, the C.O.C believes that this year’s rally represents not only good value for money but promises a sizzling Saturday in the stunning Sperrins.
